(Governor, Imo State August 29 1986 – Sept. 2 1989)
Amadi Ikwechegh, Military Governor of Imo State was in office 29 August 1986 to 2 September 1989. Born 25 February 1951 (Bede Abia State) and died 10 November 2009 (Aged 58).
Commodore Amadi Guy Ikwuechegh was appointed Military Governor of Imo State during the Military Regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. He attended Township School Aba and the Nigeria Military School Zaria (1963 – 1966) and attended the Nigeria Defense Academy in 1974. He was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in 1974. He then studied at Britannia Royal Naval College of Dart Mouth, the Royal Hydrographic School, Australia and the Naval School of Oceanography U.S.A.
He attended the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, and also earned Masters in Strategic Studies from University of Ibadan. He served as ADC to Military Governor of Niger State, Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe. He was retired in June 1999, along with all other Military Officers who had held political offices.
Amadi Ikwechegh died on November 2009 after protracted illness. He would always be remembered for maintaining peace and order in the state.
