Adekunle Shameusideen Lawal, Military Governor of Imo State was in office August 10, 1977 – July 23, 1978. Born on 8 February 1934 in Lagos State and died on 27 November 1980. Adekunle Shameusideen Lawal started his early education at Holy Ghost Cathedral School Lagos, Nigeria. He attended Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, from where he graduated in 1963 with B.Sc. (English) Honours. Adekunle Shameusideen Lawal was a Chattered Fellow; Institute of Marine Engineering. He established Colleges of Agriculture Umudike and Umuagwo. He voluntarily retired from the Nigeria Navy as an Admiral in 1980.
He died in November 1980 after an illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Taiwo Adefumilayo Lawal and his six children.
The Military Administrator would always be remembered that the young state was peaceful and law abiding people.
